The opening game jerseys were designed by the CHL in conjunction with the Brandon Wheat Kings in honour of the Canadian Army, specifically the men and women past, present, and future of CFB Shilo. CFB Shilo is Manitoba’s only army base and is located approximately 20 minutes from the Keystone Centre. CFB Shilo is the site of the Memorial Cup Arrival and Rededication Ceremony which takes place Thursday May 13at 1:30 pm. The Memorial Cup will be rededicated to honour all of Canada’s war fallen.

The Memorial Cup was donated in 1919 by the Ontario Hockey Association as a memorial to those young men and women who had been given their lives in the defence of Canada during World War I. The 2010 edition of the tournament in Brandon will mark the 92nd time this prestigious trophy will be presented.
The commemorative jerseys worn by the host Kitchener Rangers and Rimouski Oceanic in the 2008 and 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup opening games cumulatively generated over $60,000 for the fund.
