Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League in association with SUBWAY® restaurant chain and the three regional leagues the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Western Hockey League today announced all six Canadian host centres for the 2011 SUBWAY® Super Series to be played November 7-17, 2011.
For the ninth straight year regional teams of CHL All-Stars will compete against the Russian National Junior Team as part of a six game series which opens on Monday November 7 in Victoriaville, QC. Game Two of the series stays in the QMJHL and will be played in Quebec City, QC, on Wednesday November 9. The following night the series shifts to the OHL where Ottawa, ON, will host Game Three on Thursday November 10, before heading north to Sault Ste. Marie, ON, for Game Four on Monday November 14. The series wraps up with two games in the WHL beginning with Game Five on Wednesday November 16 in Regina, SK, and Game Six on Thursday November 17 in Moose Jaw, SK.
“On behalf of the Canadian Hockey League we look forward to bringing the SUBWAY® Super Series to CHL arenas next November,” said CHL President David Branch. “Given the success of the 2010 SUBWAY® Super Series the excitement behind this event continues to grow, and following the result of the 2011 World Junior Hockey Championship the on-ice rivalry between Canada and Russia is as strong as ever.”
The SUBWAY® Super Series is an integral part of the identification process for Team Canada just prior to the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship which returns to Canadian soil in 2012 to be played in Calgary and Edmonton, AB.
“On behalf of all SUBWAY® restaurants across the country, we are thrilled to return for our third straight season as title sponsor of the SUBWAY® Super Series,” said Kathleen Bell, Marketing and Creative Services Director, SUBWAY® Franchisee Advertising Fund. “We are excited that our partnership provides us with the opportunity to lend our support to such an exciting event that has become a fixture on the hockey calendar each November, helping us engage CHL fans not only in the six local host markets but across the entire country.”
Last season, Team Russia emerged with the series win for the first time in eight years of this event. They won four out of six games with 17 players who would later represent Russia and win gold at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, NY. Russia defeated Team Canada that also featured 20 CHL players from the 2010 SUBWAY® Super Series.
All six games of the SUBWAY ® Super Series will be broadcast nationally on Rogers Sportsnet with RDS televising both games from the QMJHL.
The 2011 SUBWAY® Super Series is supported by CHL associate sponsors, Bank of Montreal and CCM.
