Chimienti posts pair of shutouts, takes over BCHL lead

Merritt Centennials goaltender Lino Chimienti has been named the BCHL Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 15 the league announced Monday.

Chimienti picked up two shutout wins and now leads the BCHL with four goose eggs on the season. The Laval, Que. native began the week making 22 saves in a flawless 2nd Star effort against Vernon and capped things with a 1st Star nod for his 34 saves in a blanking of Langley.

The 5-foot-11, 185-pound netminder in now on a personal five-game win streak and has helped the Cents to six-straight wins overall.

Honourable mentions this week go to Westside Warriors forward Marcus Basara (one goal, three assists, 1st Star), Penticton Vees forward Steven Fogarty (three goals, three assists, two 2nd Stars), Surrey Eagles forward Alex Hagen (two goals, four assists, 2nd Star), Eagles goalie Andrew Hunt (two wins, one OTL, .965 sv%, 1.30 GAA, 1st Star) and Powell River Kings defenceman Craig Dalrymple (three goals, two assists, 2 1st Stars).
