FIGHTING SAINTS ACQUIRE GOALTENDER GIRARD

Press Release

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Fighting Saints addressed a future need through the trade market today, sending Gabe Antoni to the Springfield Junior Blues of the North American Hockey League in exchange for fellow goaltender Connor Girard. The Fighting Saints are confident that Girard will be a capable backup for starter Matt Morris, and will have an opportunity to become the starting goaltender next season when Morris moves on to the University of Maine.

Girard has played in sixteen games for the Junior Blues, compiling a 4-11-0 record to go along with a 3.38 goals against average and a save percentage of .900. During his time with the Fighting Saints, Antoni also played in sixteen games, going 10-4-1, with a goals against average of 2.65, and a .884 save percentage.

Fighting Saints Head Coach Jim Montgomery said that he is confident that the acquisition of Girard gives the Fighting Saints a clear option at the goaltender position next season.

“Connor was born in 1993, so he can potentially be our starter next year,” he said. “We thank Gabe for his hard work here in Dubuque, especially when he carried the load when Matt Morris was injured, and we wish him all the best as he moves on in his career.”
