Girard, Asselin and Blain named the TELUS three stars of the week

Press Release

Gabriel Girard, Guillaume Asselin and Jérémie Blain were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for the period spanning January 9th to the 15th.

Shawinigan Cataractes goaltender Gabriel Girard is the first star. He was named the first star of Thursday’s game following a 4-1 win against the Saint John Sea Dogs during which he made 29 stops. Saturday, against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, he made 27 saves and blocked 4 additional shots during the shootout to collect his 9th consecutive win. Saturday night, the Cataractes took the overall lead with 68 points, two more than the Sea Dogs. As of last Thursday, Gabriel Girard’s goals-against-average average of 2.40 is the best in the league.

The second star is awarded to Guillaume Asselin, the Chicoutimi Saguenéens right-winger. Wednesday, in a 6-0 win against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, he was named the 1st star of the game after recording 2 goals, the second being his 20th of the season. Friday, during the matchup televised on Sportsnet and TVA Sports against the Halifax Mooseheads, he was named the 1st star of the game after scoring 2 goals and adding an assist. The next day, he collected 2 assists versus the PEI Rocket. It’s worth noting that he played all of his games on the road. He finished the week with 4 goals and 4 assists for a total of 8 points and a +/- of +1.

Jérémie Blain, the Victoriaville Tigres defenseman, had a great week. He scored 2 goals on Thursday against the Québec Remparts. Friday, in a 6-1 win against the Val-d’Or Foreurs, he collected 2 assists on goals scored during power-plays. Sunday, during another spectacular 8-1 win against the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, he was named the 2nd star of the game after tallying 4 points. Blain equalled his personal best of four points in one game set 2 years ago with the Acadie Bathurst Titan (January 14, 2010). Blain scored three goals and added five assists this week for a total of 8 points and a +6 rating. It was the third consecutive victory for the Tigres.
