ICERAYS AQUIRE 6’4’’ GOALTENDER, RELEASE KOMMA

Press Release

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Corpus Christi IceRays have traded futures for goaltender Matt Laprade of the Bay State Breakers, and also released backup goaltender Chris Komma back to the Boulder Jr. Bison of the WSHL.

Laprade, a 6’4’’ 195lb goaltender played alongside current IceRay defenseman Payden Mielke last season with the Colorado Rampage of the Tier 1 Elite League.

“Ryan Bennett and I had the opportunity to watch Matt play last season with defenseman Payden Mielke. He not only comes from a top program in Coach Andrew Sherman's Rampage, but was able to gather some junior experience with Bay State this season.” Said head coach Justin Quenneville.

This year with the Bay State Breakers, Laprade has a goals against average of 5.42 and a save percentage of .868 in eight games.

It’s not only the size of Laprade that attracted the IceRays, but the opportunity to gain experience in the NAHL. “His size will be the first thing opponents and fans will notice,” said Quenneville. “But acquiring Matt will also give him the opportunity to gain some experience this season with the leg up for returning in 2012-13. He is a gifted student-athlete and already has gained attention from several top rated University programs.”
