Khaira collects POW honours after helpful week with Spruce Kings

Prince George Spruce Kings forward Jujhar Khaira has been named the BCHL's Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 1 the league announced Monday.

Khaira led all BCHL scorers with seven points, including six assists, in two games. The 6-foot-3, 195-pounder opened the week assisting on each Spruce Kings goal in a 4-2 win over Chilliwack and followed that up with a 2nd Star showing for a goal and two assists in a 5-2 win over Trail.

Khaira is now second in Prince George scoring with 50 points in 29 games which puts him seventh overall in league scoring.

Honourable mentions this week go to Coquitlam Express defenceman Clinton Atkinson (two games, three assists), Prince George Spruce Kings forward Paul De Jersey (two goals, four assists, 3rd Star), Powell River Kings goalie Sean Maguire (two games, 55 saves on 58 shots for a .948 save percentage, 3rd Star), Merritt Centennials goalie Lino Chimienti (two games, one relief appearance, 44 saves on 46 shots for a .956 save percentage, 3rd Star), and Prince George Spruce Kings forward Michael Colantone (four goals, one assist, 2nd Star).
