Petaccio acquired from Oshawa

Press Release

Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Dubas announced a pair of trades early today with the Oshawa Generals.

In the first deal the Hounds acquire 17-year old winger MARK PETACCIO in exchange for the Hounds 2nd Round pick in 2013 and 3rd round pick in 2014.

"As we continue to build our culture here, it became very apparent that we required a younger player who shows tremendous competitiveness and grit. Having watch Mark this season, and had our scouting staff watch him, he was a player that we had keyed in on because of his compete level and upside. Mark is a big young man, who plays a very rugged game and we felt that was an area our club needed to address. Being 17, Mark fills a need for us at the 1994 age group which allows us to continue to balance our roster out as we move forward” started Dubas.

Petaccio, originally selected in the 2nd Round (24th overall) of the 2010 OHL Priority Selection by Oshawa, was in his 2nd season with the Generals. Through the first half of the season, which was shortened by a 10 game suspension, Mark has 4 goals and 1 assist in 25 games played.

"We feel that Mark has a lot of upside and our coaching staff looks forward to working with him to maximize his potential while wearing a Greyhound uniform” continued the Hounds’ GM.

In the two team’s second transaction the Hounds acquired Plymouth’s 2nd Round and 3rd Round pick in 2012 in exchange for the Hounds 2nd Round pick in 2012.

“In addition to acquiring Mark, this trade allowed us to fill our one hole leading into the 2012 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection which was the lack of a 3rd round selection. The Hounds now hold 20 selections in the 2012 Priority Selection including three picks in the 4th round, two in the 6th, two in the 7th, and two in the 15th” concluded Dubas.
