Riders Forward Commits to Ferris State University

Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Gerald Mayhew has committed to play collegiate hockey at Ferris State University following his USHL career.

Playing in his first season with the Riders, Mayhew leads the team with 12 goals and is second in scoring with 18 points (12g, 6a) in 27 games. He scored a goal in his second USHL game, a victory vs. Sioux City on October 14th. He then collected six goals over a three-game stretch from October 21-28, which included a hat trick in the 5-2 win vs. Green Bay on October 22nd. The native of Wyandotte, Michigan just celebrated his 19th birthday on New Year’s Eve.

Five other current USHL players are also committed to Ferris State University – Chad McDonald (Des Moines Buccaneers), Connor Schmidt (Des Moines Buccaneers), Dakota Klecha (Muskegon Lumberjacks), Ken Babinski (Omaha Lancers), and Ryan Lowney (Youngstown Phantoms).

Ferris State University is a member of the CCHA and has 12 USHL alumni on the roster this season; Eric Alexander (Chicago Steel/Lincoln Stars), Chad Billins (Waterloo Black Hawks), Kyle Bonis (Indiana Ice), Scott Czarnowczan (Green Bay Gamblers), Justin DeMartino (Waterloo Black Hawks), Aaron Schmit (Chicago Steel), Brett Wysopal (Tri-City Storm), Jason Binkley (Tri-City Storm), T.J. Schlueter (Dubuque/Tri-City), Dominic Panetta (Indiana/Tri-City), Simon Denis (Tri-City Storm), and C.J. Motte (Waterloo Black Hawks).
