POWERS HEADING TO CLARKSON

Press Release

Former Hamilton Red Wings captain and current Stouffville Spirit forward Christian Powers has confirmed his commitment to join the Clarkson University Golden Knights beginning with the 2012-13 ECAC season.

The 5'10", 185 lbs. native of Carlisle, Ontario started his OJHL career as a 17-year old with the Burlington Cougars in 2008-09, posting a respectable 18 points in 39 games played. The following season he moved closer to home, joining the nearby Hamilton Red Wings, where he instantly became one of the club's leaders and hardest-working players, finishing third in scoring with 44 points in 49 games played.

The Red Wings' alternate captain would again improve upon his totals last season, once again finishing third in scoring on the club with 36 goals, the eighth best total in the league, and 66 points. Entering this season, Powers was named the club's captain and started the season on fire, recording 14 goals and 28 points in just 21 games before he was traded to the Stouffville Spirit. Now playing with one of the most explosive offences in the league, Powers would continue his high-scoring ways, finishing the year with 25 goals and 61 points, while also notching seven game-winners.

Congratulations to Christian and best of luck for the remainder of the playoffs and into his NCAA career!
