Press Release
Interim coach Kyle Tapp announced Thursday that he has named 19 year
old defenceman Grant Baker as the Bobcats’ new captain. An elite AJHL
defenceman, Grant’s strong leadership skills and on-ice abilities make
him a natural selection as the next leader of the hockey club.
“Grant is exactly what our team and our community stand for,” said
coach Tapp, “with his character, hard work, and passion for the game,
our team is in good hands.” Grant is enjoying a strong 2012-13 campaign
so far, accumulating 4 goals and 15 assists for 19 points and 84 penalty
minutes through 40 games played. Earlier in the season, Grant earned an
invitation to the Team Canada West Evaluation Camp for the World Junior
‘A’ Challenge. The Calgary, AB, native first joined the team at the
beginning of the 2011-12 season where he had a breakout season as an 18
year old rookie in the league.
The hard hitting defenceman has worn an ‘A’ since the beginning of the
2012-13 season, and earns the ‘C’ in lieu of a trade made by the Bobcats
on Tuesday involving former captain Casey Knight. Local 19 year old
forward Austin McDonald was also named as one of the team’s alternate
captains. In his first year with the team, Austin joins Dustin Lebrun
and Jordyn Wozniak as the team’s alternate captains.
