CANALTA HOTELS PLAYERS OF THE WEEK JAN 13

Press Release

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Eli Lichtenwald, Nipawin Hawks
1992 F Eli Lichtenwald (Saskatoon SK) scored his first two goals of the season Tuesday night in a 4-1 win over the Battlefords North Stars.  He collected an assist in a one-goal loss to Humboldt on Friday and then scored once and set up another in a win over Yorkton on Saturday.  Lichtenwald returned to the team over the Christmas Break after playing for a year and a half in the USHL.  In four games with the Hawks this year, Lichtenwald has 3-goals and 2-assists.

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL DEFENSEMAN OF THE WEEK
David Stumborg, Humboldt Broncos
1993 D David Stumborg (Humboldt SK) has quietly gone about his business this season as a stabilizing, consistent blueliner for the first place Broncos.  Playing in front of his hometown fans, Stumborg has put up 2-goals and 10-assists in 38-games; but four of those points came in three games played last week.  He had a goal and an assist in a shootout loss to Melville on Tuesday and then also picked up helpers in subsequent games Friday and Saturday versus Nipawin and Battlefords; both Bronco victories.

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Josh Betinol, Battlefords North Stars
1994 F Josh Betinol (Okotoks AB) had a nice three point effort on the strength of two goals in Sunday’s loss to the Estevan Bruins.  He finished the week with 2-goals and 2-assists in 3-games played.  On the season, he has 13-goals and 14-assists in 35-games; which places him third in SJHL rookie scoring for the year.

CANALTA HOTELS SJHL GOALTENDER OF THE WEEK
Alex Wakaluk, Melville Millionaires
1993 G Alex Wakaluk (Bellevue AB) made 50-saves in a 3-2 shootout win over the Humboldt Broncos on Tuesday night and then blanked the Notre Dame Hounds with a 25-save performance as the Mils defeated two contending clubs over the last week to run their unbeaten streak to six games since the Christmas Break.  Wakaluk is second in the SJHL with a 2.37-GAA and his .929-SPCT also ranks second.  He’s first in the league in minutes played and tied for first in wins with 19.
