The Kingston Frontenacs are mourning the loss of Wren Blair, former
owner of the Kingston Frontenacs. A long time hockey builder, Blair
purchased the Kingston OHL franchise in 1989 and renamed it the Kingston
Frontenacs. He owned the team through 2000.
“Wren Blair played
an instrumental role in building hockey for more than five decades,”
said Justin Chenier, Executive Director of Business Operations for the
Kingston Frontenacs. “Wren’s ownership was instrumental in keeping the
OHL in Kingston and his dedication to the team during his years of
ownership helped recreate an era of pride in hockey in Kingston.”
Blair’s
hockey accomplishments include coaching the Whitby Dunlops to the 1958
Ice Hockey World Championships, the 1957 and 1959 Allen Cup, being the
first General Manager for the expansion Minnesota North Stars from 1967
to 1974, Head Coach of the Minnesota North Stars from 1967-1970, General
Manager for the Pittsburg Penguins from 1975-1976. He was coach of the
original Kingston Frontenacs club in 1963, winners of the Eastern
Professional Hockey League championships.
