Ice Dogs forward Cole Sonstebo named Pizza Hut player of the week

Press Release

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League announced today that Dryden Ice Dogs forward Cole Sonstebo has been named the Pizza Hut player of the week for the period concluding Jan. 13.

In three games this past week the 20-year-old native of Fergus Falls, Minn., had goals in each of them while totalling seven points in all helping Dryden register a trio of victories and maintain their hold on second place in the SIJHL standings.

Sonstebo began his award winning effort last Tuesday by scoring once in a 3-2 shootout win at Fort Frances.

The following evening he tallied again and set-up two others in an 8-5 triumph over visiting Duluth before concluding his week by notching his second career SIJHL hat-trick a night later against the same Clydesdales in an 8-3 romp.

On the season Sonstebo has scored 11 goals and supplied 14 assists for 25 points, which are all league highs for the Ice Dogs forward.

Honourable mention for the Pizza Hut player of the week award went to Jordan Shockley, (F) Minnesota Wilderness; Jordan Christianson, (F) Fort Frances Lakers; Chase Hollander, (G) Minnesota Iron Rangers; Sebastien Romeo, (F) Duluth Clydesdales and Matt Kaarela, (F) Thunder Bay North Stars.

At the conclusion of the 2012-13 regular season the SIJHL’s top performer will earn the Pizza Hut player of the year award.
