Press Release
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs
announced today that 19-year-old Saint John native Ryan Tesink has been
traded to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
“Ryan has been one of our most
competitive players over the past three years,” says Sea Dogs head coach
and General Manager Mike Kelly. “He is one of those players that plays
his best when the games mean the most. That has been more than evident
here in that he has been a central part of our team winning two
President Cups and a Memorial Cup.”
In return, Saint John receives their own 1st-round pick in the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League draft pick from the Armada.
For a glimpse into Tesink’s highlights with the Sea Dogs, visit Sea Dogs TV, the team’s official YouTube channel.
Originally selected in the first round, 18th
overall, in the 2010 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft,
Tesink had an excellent rookie season with the Sea Dogs in 2010-11. He
broke in with eight goals and 27 assists in 59 games, and turned it up a
notch in 2011-12 with 13 goals and 27 assists in only 36 games.
His rookie effort in the post-season
had him noticed by the scouts of the St. Louis Blues of the NHL. The
Blues drafted Tesink in the sixth round, 152nd overall, in the 2011 NHL Entry draft.
Tesink has shown lots of grit this
season and leads the 2012-13 Sea Dogs in penalty minutes with a
career-high 67. The 6-foot, 166-pound right winger is also the Sea Dogs
second leading scorer in 2012 with a career-high 16 goals with 22
assists in only 33 games.
“Even as a 17 year old, Ryan made a
significant impact toward our success, and as a 19 year old his
leadership will be missed,” Kelly says. “I have no doubt that he will
also have a positive effect on his new team and teammates in the second
part of the season. We wish Ryan all the best and will always be
grateful to him for all he has done for the Saint John Sea Dog
organization and we will always share fond memories.”
The 1st-round choice is
coming back to the Sea Dogs after being dealt to Blainville as part of
the Charles-Olivier Roussel trade from Oct. 4, 2011.
