Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Zach
O’Brien of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan is the CHL Player of the Week after
recording 12 points in three games including six goals and six assists
with an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-11 for the week ending
January 6.
O’Brien led the Titan to three wins last week highlighted by a
five-point performance and two straight hat-tricks. After recording
three assists in a 6-1 win over the PEI Rocket last Thursday, O’Brien
scored his first hat-trick of the season on Friday and added an assist
as first star of a 5-3 win over the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. He
finished the week with another first star performance on Sunday netting
his second straight hat-trick and adding two assists as part of a 5-2
win over the Moncton Wildcats.
O’Brien, a 20-year-old from St. John’s, Newfoundland, is playing in
his third full QMJHL season. Third in league scoring with 62 points in
40 games, O’Brien continues to build on his QMJHL record of 166
consecutive regular season games without being assessed a penalty.
Also considered for the award this week was Sarnia Sting rookie
Nikolay Goldobin who scored eight goals and four assists for 12 points
in five games, and Cody Sylvester of the Calgary Hitmen who scored two
goals and six assists for eight points in four games.
