Press Release
The Portland Winterhawks have signed 18-year-old defenseman Shaun
MacPherson, who will join the team immediately for the remainder of the
season.
MacPherson, 6’1”, 200 pounds, began the season with the
Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, and posted
three goals and 15 assists for 18 points in 32 games. He was named the
league’s Rookie of the Month for December.
Last season he played
for the Knights of Columbus Pats Midget AAA team in the Alberta Midget
Hockey League, where he had three goals and 12 assists for 15 points in
33 games.
MacPherson, a native of Edmonton, Alberta, took part in
the Winterhawks’ training camp in August, and has been on the team’s
protected list since then.
“We’re excited to add Shaun to our
defensive core, and we believe he’ll be a valuable contributor for us,”
said Portland Winterhawks Acting Head Coach and Assistant General
Manager Travis Green. “Shaun impressed us during training camp, and we
were pleased to see his progress in Kindersley this season.”
“I’m
excited for the opportunity to join the Portland Winterhawks,” said
MacPherson. “I’ve watched them play in the WHL championship series in
the last two years and I’m looking forward to joining the team and
continuing my career here.”
