Marlboro,
MA- Dominic Trento and Michael Barrett each scored two goals to lead
the Jersey Hitmen to an 8-2 win over the Islanders Hockey Club on Friday
afternoon.
The
Islanders grabbed an early lead just 1:55 into the game when Conor
MacPhee stole the puck from one of the Hitmen, skated it in, and
backhanded it past Hitmen goaltender Chris Funkey.
MacPhee’s goal proved to be the only tally of the first period.
Trento
tied the game at one with 8:12 remaining in the second period when he
took a pass from Eric Sade at the top of the circle and bounced it off
Islanders goaltender Colton Phinney and into the net. Tim Clifton also
assisted on the play.
Thirty
seconds later, Michael Doherty and Chris Izmirlian set up MacPhee for
his second of the game to put the Islanders back in front.
With
1:02 to play in the period, John Furgele passed the puck to Michael
Barrett in the slot and Barrett ripped a shot past Phinney to tie the
game.
Trevor
Owens gave the Hitmen their first lead of the game 24 seconds into the
final period when he took a pass from Brendan Bradley and fired it in
from the point. Andrew Black also received credit for an assist.
The
Hitmen extended the lead to 4-2 with a power play goal at 5:54. Andrew
Black sent a pass to John Furgele at the top of the slot and Furgele
ripped a shot, which was tipped by Trento into the net.
Brock McGinn scored for the Hitmen halfway through the period with a shot through traffic from Riley and Trento.
Barrett, Corbin McGuire, and John Parker each tallied for the Hitmen in the final ninety seconds.
