The Ottawa Senators have announced that they have signed Winterhawks
free agent Troy Rutkowski to a three-year entry level contract.
Rutkowski will remain with the Winterhawks for the duration of the
2012-13 season.
Rutkowski, the Winterhawks’ team captain, has a
career-high 61 points this season, ranking him second among all WHL
defensemen. This season he has become the franchise leader in games
played (348) and consecutive games (237). He’s third all-time among
Winterhawks defensemen with 211 career points, and tied for first
all-time among Hawks blueliners with 61 career goals.
“Troy is a
true WHL success story, joining the Winterhawks at 16 and ultimately
becoming team captain,” said Winterhawks Acting Head Coach Travis Green.
“He’s been a mainstay of this organization for five seasons and we’re
excited he has this opportunity with the Ottawa Senators.”
Rutkowski
was never selected in the WHL Bantam Draft, making the team as a listed
player in 2008 as a 16-year-old. He was selected by the Colorado
Avalanche in the fifth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
