Wildcats hire Roger Shannon as full time Assistant Director of Hockey Operations, Director of Scouting and Player Development

The Moncton Wildcats are proud to announce the full time hiring of Roger Shannon as Assistant GM,  Director of Scouting and Player Development.  Shannon brings a wealth of experience to the position, having just spent the 2011/2012 season as the Assistant GM and Director of Scouting with the Memorial Cup winning Shawinigan Cataractes.

Shannon is also presently the General Manager of the UNB Varsity Reds, winning three national titles during his 12 seasons at the Fredericton school. Shannon is also president of the V-Reds prospects, a youth development program that attracts most of Atlantic Canada’s best young players. Shannon spent four seasons as both General Manager and Director of Scouting with the Lewiston Maineiacs in the QMJHL.

 “This is a very exciting time for me and my family,” Said Shannon “I had always hoped to work full time in hockey and with an organization like Moncton, a committed group that wants to do things the right way I couldn’t be happier. I am looking forward to working with the kids that we draft as we turn them into young men. It is imperative that we support the kids we draft to give them the best possible chance of success. This will help both them and the organizations ultimate goal of winning the Memorial Cup. I have a great scouting staff and am looking forward to giving them more of my time. I would be remise if didn’t say that I truly enjoyed my 22 years with the City of Fredericton as both a Police Officer and Senior Manager. ”

Roger is a graduate of the University of New Brunswick leaving his post as Manager of Sports Tourism at the City of Fredericton. Roger is married to Jodie, they have two children, Zachary (20) and Elizabeth (16). Zachary was a member of the Woodstock Slammers Championship Team this past season after having spent two seasons in the QMJHL.

“We are always striving as an organization to get better, with Roger moving to full time it enables us to be very thorough in or midget and euro draft preparations as well as our free agent search.” Commented Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Danny Flynn, “With the demands of Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations ever increasing, having another full time position in hockey operations will make us a stronger organization.” 

“We are very pleased to have Roger Shannon join our team full time in the roles of Assistant Director of Hockey Operations, Director of Scouting and Player Development.” Said Robert K. Irving. “ Roger brings the leadership that we believe is necessary to bring top talent to our organization which will allow us to have competitive hockey teams in the years ahead.”
