Niagara Set to Host Sweden for Training Camp

Press Release

The Niagara Region is getting set to host Team Sweden's training camp next week, right here in St. Catharines at the Gatorade Garden City Complex. Team Sweden will be here preparing for the World Junior Championships as we lead up to their World Junior Pre-Competition game versus Switzerland. The game is a rematch of last year's bronze medal game against Team Switzerland, and will take place at the Gatorade Garden City Complex on December 23rd at 7pm.

Tickets are still available for the Sweden vs. Switzerland game here in St. Catharines and now is a great time to get your tickets as a newly opened block of 200 tickets returned by Hockey Canada just became available today! With ticket prices set at the IceDogs normal rates of $19.50 for premium seating, $18.50 for end seating and $14 for standing room, this game offers fans a chance to catch some premier international competition for the best price around!

Switzerland and Sweden will both feature some familiar names and faces for fans.

For Team Sweden there will be a solid contingent of players with OHL connections, with Kitchener Rangers Captain Gabriel Landeskog, being joined by former Sault Ste Marie Greyhound and current Binghamton Senators goaltender Robin Lehner and Plymouth Whalers forward Rickard Rakell.

On top of the players with OHL connections, Sweden will feature familiar names like Calgary Flames first round pick Tim Erixon and projected NHL Top 10 pick Adam Larsson.

For Team Switzerland, there will also be an OHL contingent, which might include Plymouth Whalers defenceman Dario Trutmann, as well as the Peterborough Petes forward Lino Martschini, who have both been invited to Swiss selection camp.

In addition to Switzerland's OHL connections, they also feature two extremely prominent returning members of last year’s team in New York Islanders first round pick Nino Niederreiter and 2010 World Junior Top Goaltender Benjamin Conz.

As Team Sweden prepares for the game and the World Junior Tournament itself at their training camp, they have been gracious enough to open some practices to the general public free of charge. The schedule for those practices is as follows:
Sunday, December 19th 4pm-5:30pm
Wednesday, December 22nd 4pm-5:30pm
