ROCKETS SIGN TWO 15-YEAR-OLD

Press Release

The Kelowna Rockets are proud to announce the signing of its first two picks in the 2010 Western Hockey League draft.

Both Jesse Lees and Madison Bowey committed to the Kelowna Rockets this week as the pair joined the Rockets on its Alberta road trip.

Each player also got into a game with Bowey playing Wednesday night against Lethbridge and Lees in action Friday night in Calgary.

"We're very excited that Madison and Jesse have committed to playing for the Rockets," said Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton. "They are an important part of our future and we're looking forward to seeing them next year."

Lees and Bowey are both defenceman and they were very nearly both selected in the first round of the WHL bantam draft. Lees was taken with the Rockets first pick, ninth overall in the first round. The team then traded up to select Bowey with the first pick of the second round of the draft.

“We were very pleased with the draft," said Rockets head scout Lorne Frey. The bottom line in this league is you don’t win without defencemen and we feel we got the two best defencemen in the draft."

For Lees the debut was special as it came in his hometown of Calgary. After playing in the Saddledome Lees will return to the Calgary Northstars midget AAA team. Bowey, a Winnipeg native, will return to the Winnipeg Monarchs midget AAA team.
