Express forward Massimo Lamacchia signs with Ivy League Brown

Coquitlam Express forward and assistant captain Massimo Lamacchia has signed a scholarship to Brown University, the club announced this week.

Lamacchia is in his first season with the Express after spending the last three seasons in the Ontario Junior Hockey League. The Vaughn, Ont. native currently leads Coquitlam in scoring. In 48 games this season, Lamacchia has racked up 26 goals and 28 assists.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound 19-year-old has been instrumental for the Express both on and off the ice this season and puts the team'scholarship total to four players. (Brad Reid signed with the Rochester Institute of Technology before being picked up by Salmon Arm).

Twelve former BCHL players have received scholarships to Brown University including Aaron Volpatti of the Vancouver Canucks. Brown's roster currenly has three BCHL alumni.

This NCAA Division I scholarship is for the 2011-12 season at the Ivy League university. The franchise is extremely pleased and excited for Lamacchia and wish him the best of luck with the Bears next season.
