NUGENT-HOPKINS LEADS TEAM ORR TO WIN

Toronto, ON – Sven Bartschi of the Portland Winterhawks notched a goal and an assist and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Red Deer Rebels picked up a pair of assists to help Team Orr to a 7-1 win over Team Cherry in the 2011 Home Hardware CHL / NHL Top Prospects game on Wednesday night at Air Canada Center in Toronto, ON.

Nugent-Hopkins, from Burnaby, B.C., turned in a strong performance for Team Orr to earn Player of the Game honors for his team. The 17-year-old showed plenty of vision and offensive savvy that has him ranked 3rd among North American skaters in NHL Central Scouting’s mid-term rankings.

Bartschi and Nugent-Hopkins were two of 13 WHL players participating in the game, which consists 40 of the top NHL draft-eligible prospects in the CHL.

Zack Phillips of the Saint John Sea Dogs also notched a goal and an assist while playing on an effective line with Nugent-Hopkins and Bartschi for Team Orr.

Phillips’ Sea Dogs teammates Jonathan Huderdeau and Nathan Beaulieu also scored for Team Orr while Daniel Catenacci (Sault Ste. Marie OHL), Vincent Trochek (Saginaw OHL) and Dougie Hamilton (Niagara OHL) also counted.

Goaltender Liam Liston of the Brandon Wheat Kings turned aside all 18 shots he faced for Team Orr through the game’s first half to record the win.

Shane Prince (Ottawa OHL) scored the only goal for Team Cherry. Ty Rattie of the Portland Winterhawks drew an assist on Prince’s goal.
