KUEMPER VAUGHN CHL GOALIE OF THE WEEK

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Darcy Kuemper of the Red Deer Rebels has been named the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the third time this season. For the week ending January 16, Kuemper posted a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutouts for a goals-against-average of 0.320 and save percentage of .988.

Last Wednesday night Kuemper, who was also named the WHL’s Player of the Week, made 32 saves and was named first star of a 4-0 shutout win over the Moose Jaw Warriors. He claimed second star honours on Friday night in Brandon making 29 saves as part of a 2-1 shootout victory over the Wheat Kings. He finished his week Saturday by earning his CHL-best eighth shutout of the season when he stopped all 24 shots as third star of a 6-0 win over the Regina Pats.

Kuemper, a 20-year-old from Saskatoon, SK, is playing in his third full season with the Rebels. A sixth round 2009 NHL Entry Draft pick of the Minnesota Wild, Kuemper leads all WHL goaltenders with a goals-against-average of 1.80 and save percentage of .933.

Canadian National Junior Team goaltender Mark Visentin of the Niagara IceDogs was also nominated for the award after posting a 1-0-0-1 record with a shutout victory and a goals-against-average of 0.48 and save percentage of .986. In the QMJHL, Evan Mosher made an incredible 124 saves in just two starts for the PEI Rocket despite an overtime and shootout loss posting a goals-against-average of 2.32 and save percentage of .960.
