BLADES THROWER WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League announced today that Saskatoon Blades defenceman Dalton Thrower is the WHL Player of the Week.

Thrower collected 11 points, scoring three goals and eight assists in four games over the past week helping the Blades to a 2-2-0-0 record.

On Tuesday, December 27, Thrower picked up one assist in a 7-2 loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings. He was held pointless on December 29 in Prince Albert as the Raiders downed the Blades 5-2. On Friday, December 30, the Blades hosted the Raiders in the back half of their home-and-home series. Thrower scored two goals, four assists and was named the games 2nd Star in the Blades 9-4 win. The Blades then welcomed the Brandon Wheat Kings to Saskatoon for a New Year’s Day clash on January 1. Thrower collect one goal, three assists and was named the games 2nd Star in the Blades 8-2 win.

Thrower currently ranks 9th among all WHL defenceman in scoring with 30 points (7 goals, 23 assists) in 39 games played. The Saskatoon Blades have won two straight and currently sit sixth in the WHL Eastern Conference with a 22-16-0-1 record for 45 points.

An 18-year-old from North Vancouver, BC, Thrower is in his third full season with the Saskatoon Blades who selected the 6’ rearguard in the second round of the 2008 WHL Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Chris Driedger of the Calgary Hitmen for the CHL Goaltender of the Week Award. Driedger posted one shut-out victory this past week, stopping all 27 shots faced in a 2-0 win over the Kelowna Rockets January 1. It was the Winnipeg native’s first career WHL shut-out and 10th win of the season.
