Hynes, Beaudry and Gervais-Chouinard named the TELUS three stars of the week

Brandon Hynes, Michaël Beaudry and Jacob Gervais-Chouinard were named today the TELUS three stars of the week for the period spanning december 27th, 2011 to January 1st, 2012.

The first star of the week is awarded to Brandon Hynes, the Victoriaville Tigres’ right-winger. Tuesday, in a 9-3 win against the Drummondville Voltigeurs, he totalled 4 assists. The next day, in a 7-4 win against the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, he scored his 20th goal of the season, on top of racking up 3 more assists for a total of 4 points. He was also voted the 1st star of the game. Friday, his team finished the year with a 5-1 win against the Shawinigan Cataractes with a 2-goal contribution from Hynes. He was named the 2nd star of the game; a game that the Tigres dominated 46-25 in the shot total. He finished the last week of the year with 3 goals, 7 assists and a +/- of +7.

Michaël Beaudry, the Val-d’Or Foreurs centre, is the second star of the week. Tuesday, he scored a goal and added 3 assists in an 8-3 win against the Rouyn-Naranda Huskies. He also won 12 out of 16 face-offs: a 75% rate. Wednesday, he collected 2 assists against the Gatineau Olympiques while on Friday he reached a personal best of 1 goal and 4 assists, contributing a point for each one of his team’s goals. He was named the 2nd star of the game. Beaudry finished the week with 2 goals and 8 assists for a total of 10 points and a +/- of +2.

Rimouski Océanic goaltender Jacob Gervais-Chouinard wins the third star of the week. Tuesday, in a 4-3 win against the Quebec Remparts, he made 34 saves on top of blocking 3 goals from the opposing team during the shootout. It’s worth noting that his saves percentage during shootouts in 2011-12 is exceptional at .917 (11 saves out of 12 shootouts). On December 30th, he made 24 saves in his first shutout of the season against the Remparts. His save percentage was at .951 and he had 2 wins with no losses this past week.
