Majors trade Derek Schoenmakers to the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for Kristoff Kontos

MISSISSAUGA - Mississauga St. Michael's Majors Head Coach and General Manager James Boyd announced a trade with the Sudbury Wolves on Thursday, acquiring forward Kristoff Kontos in exchange for forward Derek Schoenmakers, a conditional 1st round pick in the 2013 CHL Import Draft, and a conditional 4th round draft pick in 2014.

Kontos, an 18-year-old centre from Penetang, Ontario, is currently in his third OHL season and has scored 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points this season. Through three seasons, Kontos has amassed 26 goals and 39 assists for 65 points in 182 career regular season and playoff games with the Wolves. His eleventh goal this season versus the Peterborough Petes on January 1st, 2012 marked a career high for Kontos, and with 25 points this season is just seven points back of setting a career best in points during the regular season.

Schoenmakers, a 19-year old right winger from Kitchener, Ontario is in his third OHL season – all with the Majors – and has registered 25 points (13-12) in 37 games played this season. Schoenmakers set new career highs in goals, assists and points this season, and boasts 27 goals and 28 assists for 55 points in 133 career regular season and playoff games.
