Gambardella Headed to UMASS-Lowell

Press Release

Urbandale (IA)  The Des Moines Buccaneers are proud to announce that veteran forward Joe Gambardella  has committed to the University of Massachusetts at Lowell for the 2013-2014 season.

Gambardella, 19, is in his second season with the Buccaneers after joining the team midway through the 2011-2012 campaign. In his second season, Gambardella has developed into an off-ice leader as he was named one of the team captains and is also an on-ice presence with a team high 12 goals and 25 points.

Gambardella has netted two hat tricks, and the Buccaneers are 7-1 when he scores a goal this season.

The Staten Island, NY native is a true success story having risen from a third line player at the end of last season to becoming a top line center this season. He also survived June’s tryout camp with a new coaching staff that didn’t automatically bring back eligible returners. Through it all, Gambardella has shown marked improvement while becoming a fan favorite.

UMASS-Lowell is a member of Hockey East and is a four-time NCAA Tournament participant, including last season. The Riverhawks are 6-7-1 this season under second year head coach Norm Bazin
