Press Release
Sarnia, On – General Manager Jacques Beaulieu announced this morning
that the hockey club has acquired defenceman Taki Pantziris
(Pant-zeer-is) from the Guelph Storm.
Pantziris originally a 9th round selection of the Storm in 2009 was playing at Brown University (NCAA Div. 1).
The
Sting have sent a 4th round selection (originally Owen Sound’s) in 2013
and a 4th in 2016 to the Storm in exchange for the blueliner.
Pantziris
has played 7 games this season at Brown and recorded a goal and an
assist. Pantziris left the University seeking an opportunity to play in
the OHL.
Beaulieu explains his thoughts on the acquisition.
“You
can never have enough depth on defence. We have done our homework on
him and our Toronto area scouts really like Taki and feel he can step
right in and contribute. He made the decision to come play in our
league and we think he is going to be a real good fit for us.”
Pantziris will be in the lineup tonight when the Sting host the Brampton Battalion at the RBC Centre.
