QJAAAHL ST-LOUIS WINS IN A SHOOTOUT

Press Release

Game two of the 2012 Central Canada Cup All-Star Challenge presented by Huff Estates in memory of Peter Huff featured the first action for both the CCHL and the QJAAAHL, with the CCHL Yzerman Division All-Stars squaring off against the QJAAAHL St-Louis All-Stars.

Period one, although fairly even in the shot totals (13-11 for the CCHL), saw the Yzerman Division take a 2-0 lead into the break.  First Team Canada East star Dalen Hedges of the Nepean Raiders scored midway through the period and he was followed up by Fabian Walsh of the Kanata Stallions.  Netminder Matt Zawadzki of the Nepean Raiders shut the door on the QJAAAHL in the first.

After falling behind, the QJAAAHL St-Louis All-Stars came out firing in period two and quickly tied the game up with two goals in the first two minutes of the frame.  Alexandre Bergeron of Saint Leonard got his team on the board just 51 seconds in and teammate Jean-Kristoff Grenier of Vaudreuil-Dorion knotted the game at two less than a minute later.

Emilio Audi of the Pembroke Lumber Kings would restore the CCHL Yzerman lead, but with less than five minutes remaining in the game, Kevin Fiset of the Saint Jerome Panthers once again tied the game for Team St-Louis with a power play goal at 15:42 and we were off to our second shootout in as many games.
After Hedges for the CCHL and Joakim Arsenault (Sainte-Agathe) for the QJAAAHL were both stopped, Ben Robillard (Ottawa) for the CCHL and Felipe Corbo (Valleyfield) would both score.  The goaltenders came up big in the third round of shots with stops on Derian Plouffe (Kanata) of the CCHL and Jeremie Janneteau (Lachine) of the QJAAAHL.  Team St-Louis netminder Mathieu Bezeau (Lachine) then made his biggest stop of the game on Ryan Collins (Ottawa) and Bezeau’s teammate Marc-Andre Levasseur (Sainte-Jerome) won the game for the QJAAAHL, 4-3, in the fourth round of the shootout.

The Player of the Game for Team CCHL Yzerman was Derian Plouffe of the Kanata Stallions, while Jean-Kristoff Grenier  of the Vaudreuil-Dorion Mustangs was named Player of the Game for Team QJAAAHL St-Louis.
