Press Release
The start of the second round of games at the 2012 Central Canada Cup
All-Star Challenge in Wellington, Ontario saw another tight-checking
affair between the OJHL East Division All-Stars and the QJAAAHL St-Louis
All-Stars.
Team St-Louis would get on the board first, just 55 seconds into the
game, as Joakim Arsenault of the Saint-Agathe Montagnards beat Trenton
Golden Hawks netminder Victor Adamo for the early lead. Both
netminders, Adamo and Alexandre Verroneau of the Valleyfield Braves,
would shut the door the rest of the way, stopping 13 and 11 shots
respectively.
The second period would see much of the same until the OJHL East
finally broke Verroneau’s shutout bid just over halfway through the
period. Team Canada East forward Justin Danforth of the Cobourg Cougars
intercepted a pass and broke in alone to tie the game at one with his
second of the tourney. Just under four minutes later, Danforth notched
his second of the game and third of the tournament to give the East
their first lead of the game and ultimately a 2-1 victory in the game.
The Player of the Game for the OJHL East Division All-Stars was
Danforth, while for the QJAAAHL St-Louis All-Stars, Verroneau took home
the honours.
