SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs
have announced the acquisition of forward Brett Malone from the
Shawinigan Cataractes today.
In return, the Sea Dogs send a 10th-round selection in the 2014 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League entry draft.
Malone is in his third year in the QMJHL, and was originally selected in the third round, 52nd overall, in the 2010 QMJHL draft by the Moncton Wildcats.
The Miramichi, NB native featured in
44 contests for the Wildcats in the 2010-11 season putting up four goals
and adding two assists.
He also played in 33 games with the
2011-12 Wildcats, tallying two assists. The 5-foot-11, 189-pound
right-winger has had an eventful 2012-13 season, playing seven games
with the Wildcats before being acquired by the Screaming Eagles. In 25
games with the Eagles this season, the 18-year-old has three goals.
Malone was put on waivers yesterday by
the Screaming Eagles and picked up by the Cataractes before being dealt
to Saint John today.
