Gavrus Returns to Attack

Press Release

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that Belarusian forward Artur Gavrus will be back in Owen Sound today to join the Attack for the 2012/2013 season.

Gavrus was the Attack’s first round pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft and tallied 15 goals and 22 assists in 45 games last year. The 18 year old forward spent the first half of the 2012/2013 season in Belarus playing for Neman Grodno where he tallied 5 goals and 7 assists in 12 games.  At the Division I, Group A World Junior Championship, Gavrus lead the tournament in scoring, notching 5 goals and 5 assists in 5 games for the finalist Belarus.

“We are extremely happy to have Artur back and want to be perfectly clear that Artur’s decision not to return to Owen Sound in the fall was not hockey related and had nothing to do with his desire to play for the Owen Sound Attack.”, stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. “Artur had been following the team from Belarus and had been in constant contact with his teammates. He is excited to be back and we are excited to have him back as a big part of our team moving forward.”

Gavrus, a New Jersey Devils prospect is expected to fill a role on the top two lines with the Attack. It is unknown at this time which game Artur will make his return in, but will suit up for the Attack this week.

The Attack is back in action on the road when they visit Erie on Wednesday before travelling to Niagara on Thursday. The Attack return home on Saturday to take on the Kingston Frontenacs.
