SEA DOGS 2012-13 LEADERS CHOSEN

Press Release

SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs have announced the captain and alternates for the remainder of the 2012-13 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League season.

Defenceman Pierre Durepos receives the ‘C’ as captain. Durepos is in his fourth season with the team. The Shediac, NB native played every game in his first two seasons with the squad and missed only five games in the 2011-12 season. After suffering an injury in the off-season, Durepos missed the start of the 2012-13 season, returning on Nov. 24 against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

“We are pleased to name Pierre captain,” says Mike Kelly, head coach and General Manager of the Sea Dogs. “Pierre’s body of work while with the Sea Dogs has been consistent and dependable regardless of the opponent and situation. It is that steady leadership that we expect to get from Pierre going forward. His example to our younger players will serve them well as they move along their major junior careers.”

In 19 games this year, the 6-foot, 178-pound d-man has tied his career high with three goals and added 10 assists.

The alternate captains chosen to lead the young Sea Dogs squad are recently returned over-age players Ian Saab and Maxime Villemaire, both coming off professional stints and three-year Sea Dogs veteran and 19-year-old Jason Cameron.

“We believe Ian, Maxime and Jason also have the experience to provide leadership to our younger players and support them as they gain experience in the league,” says Kelly. “All four of our captains not only have a wealth of experience to draw upon, but they also have the respect of the players in the room and the coaching staff.”
