VEES ACQUIRE SIEMER FROM EXPRESS ON DEADLINE DAY

Press Release

PENTICTON, BC–The Penticton Vees Jr. ‘A’ Hockey Club has acquired forward John Siemer (92) from the Coquitlam Express for future considerations.  Siemer will wear number seven tonight, during his Vees debut in Surrey.

With the move, the Vees fill the only remaining 20 year-old spot they had vacant on their roster prior to the January 10th roster deadline.

Vees Head Coach & GM Fred Harbinson on the trade, “We are excited to add a player of John’s skill and character to our line-up. The addition of the league’s second leading goal-scorer will no doubt help solidify our depth upfront.”

Siemer was in his second season with the Express (16-20-1-0). He was their leading scorer with 20 goals and 49 points, placing Siemer second in BCHL scoring behind Langley’s Mario Puskarich. In 87 games Siemer has amassed 48 goals and 108 points. Next season, he heads to Northern Michigan University.

Prior to the BCHL, Siemer split time between the Waterloo Blackhawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and the Fresno Monsters of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2010. In the NAHL, Siemer collected 24 points in 28 games before moving to Waterloo, where he picked up 13 points in 33 games.  The Glendora, California product was a graduate of the Los Angeles Kings Under-18 Midget program; the same team former Vee Beau Bennett played for.

The Vees, with newly acquired Siemer, play a pair of games against Mainland Division opponents this weekend. The road trip starts in Surrey against the Eagles tonight.   On Saturday, the Vees pay a visit will be paid to the Langley Events Centre as they square-off against the Rivermen. The Vees are looking to sweep both season series; winning the first encounters at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
