Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that forward
Darcy Ashley of the Halifax Mooseheads is the CHL Player of the Week
for the week ending October 27 after scoring three goals and five
assists for eight points in three games with a plus-minus rating of
plus-6.
Ashley helped lead the Mooseheads to three wins last week collecting
first star honours in two of those games beginning last Wednesday night
in a big matchup against the Charlottetown Islanders. Against one of
the QMJHL’s top teams, Ashley scored twice including the game-winner and
picked up an assist as first star of the 4-2 win. On Friday night in
the first of back-to-back games against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan,
Ashley recorded three assists as part of the 5-2 win, then netted the
game-winner with an assist on Saturday again claiming first star honours
in the 4-3 victory.
Ashley, a 20-year-old from Alberton, PEI, is playing in his fourth
career QMJHL season. In just eight games so far this season he has
seven goals and seven assists for 14 points after producing 59 points in
66 games last season for the MasterCard Memorial Cup Champion
Mooseheads.
Also considered for the award this week was Carolina Hurricanes
prospect Brock McGinn of the Guelph Storm who scored five goals and
three assists for eight points in three games, while Josh Winquist of
the Everett Silvertips scored one goal and six assists for seven points
in two games.
