Winquist Denny's WHL Player of the Week

The Western Hockey League announced today that Everett Silvertips’ forward Josh Winquist is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 27, 2013.   

Winquist recorded seven points on one goal and six assists to go with a +2 rating over two games in the past week, leading the Silvertips to two victories in that span.

On Friday, October 25th, Winquist recorded three assists, including setting up the game-winner, as Everett managed a 6-5 victory on the road versus the Vancouver Giants in Vancouver, B.C.  On Saturday, October 26th, Winquist scored the overtime winner and added three assists for a four-point outing as the visiting Silvertips defeated the Kamloops Blazers 7-6 in Kamloops, B.C.

Winquist, a 20-year-old from St. Albert, AB, currently sits tied for eighth in WHL scoring with nine goals and 22 points through 15 games for Everett.  The 6’0”, 180-lb left wing is in his fifth and final season in the Western Hockey League, and has amassed 63 goals and 145 points in 248 career regular-season games for the Silvertips.  Winquist was selected in the third round, 66th overall, by Everett in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.

The WHL has also nominated Jordon Cooke of the Kelowna Rockets for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award.  Cooke, a 20-year-old from Leduc, AB, posted a 2-0 record in two starts over the past week for Kelowna, allowing just two goals on 63 shots for a 0.96 goals-against average and a .968 save percentage in that span.  On Friday, October 25th, Cooke stopped 28 of 29 shots he faced while being named the game’s 2nd Star as the visiting Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 4-1 in Victoria, B.C.  On Saturday, October 26th, Cooke stopped 33 of 34 shots he faced in regulation play and wasn’t beaten in the shootout, earning 1st Star honors, as Kelowna edged the Royals 2-1 in Victoria, B.C.  Cooke is in his fourth season in the WHL with the Rockets, and currently boasts an 8-0-0-2 record with a 1.85 GAA and a .939 save percentage through 10 appearances.
