400th for Molleken

SATURDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP – Derek Hulak scored his second goal of the game and his 20th of the season 3:23 into overtime to lift the visiting Saskatoon Blades to a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Hurricanes in Western Hockey League action on Saturday, January 17th.

The victory marked the 400th career coaching win for Blades’ head coach and general manager Lorne Molleken.

Molleken becomes the 11th coach in WHL history to reach the 400-win milestone, joining legends such as Ken Hodge, Ernie McLean, Jack Shupe and Pat Ginnell. He also joins Vancouver Giants head coach Don Hay and Tri-City Americans coach Don Nachbaur among coaches who have reached the milestone this season.

Travis Toomey also scored for the Blades (31-11-3-1), who pick up their sixth win in their last eight games. Braden Holtby made 19 saves in the win.

Kyle Beach and Dwight King score for the Hurricanes (23-21-2-2), who see a three-game winning streak come to an end. Juha Metsola stopped 27 of 30 shots he faced in a losing cause.
