Breaking News: Unice to Windsor

Loosepucks is reporting that Josh Unice has been traded along with Ben Shutron to the Windsor Spitfires for Brandon Maxwell and picks..

Kitchener sends goalie Josh Unice and defenceman Ben Shutron and centre Scott Timmins to Windsor in exchange for goalie Brandon Maxwell, Kitchener's 3rd round pick in 2009, the Soos 2nd round pick in 2010, Windsor's 2nd round pick in 2011 and OA winger Jacob Lalonde.

"It's bittersweet for us," said Spott. "We've dealt away picks in the past to try and win championships and we've been very fortunate to win two of them in the last five years but that's come at a price and this deal now gives us the chance to get back the draft picks we've given away and obviously a world-class goaltender in Brandon Maxwell."

Well Windsor got their goalie and defenseman that they needed. Maxwell has been traded the second time this season. He was originally dealt from the Erie Otters to the Spitfires. I saw him on Friday when the Development Program played the University of Maine. At times he looked shaky. He likes to play the puck.

When it comes down to it, the Spitfires want to win this season. They said Maxwell was their goalie of the future but they got a chance to take the Memorial Cup this season. They have another young American goalie that they drafted last year and that would be Jack Campbell who's currently on the Under 17 team. He has committed to Michigan for 2010.

While I am at it, the Rimouski Oceanic who host the 2009 Memorial Cup has acquired Maxime Ouimet from the Baie Comeau-Drakkar for Francois Lacerte, fourth round pick in 2009 and a second and third round picks in 2010.

That's My Take
