Colton Parayko Accepts Scholarship

Press Release

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons are pleased to announce that 18 year old defenceman Colton Parayko has accepted a scholarship to attend and play for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks for the 2012-2013 season. The Nanooks play in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) in the NCAA.

Colton made the jump to the Oil Barons after playing his Midget AA year in St. Albert. The 6 ' 4, 195 pound defenceman had an immediate impact during his rookie season. Colton's coachability, his strong work ethic, and his commitment both on and off the ice made him a valuable member of the Oil Barons. He was counted upon in all situations last year including even strength, power play, penalty killing, and all late game instances.

Coach Thibodeau stated, "Colton's maturity and his continued improvement throughout the year was a direct result of his determination on and off the ice. He is a player that is consistently striving to better himself. The Uiversity of Alaska-Fairbanks is not only getting a great player, but an even better person. We know that he will be an impact player at the NCAA level."

The Oil Barons organization would like to congratulate Colton and his family and wish him all the best in his future endeavours both academically and athletically.
