TBIRDS ACQUIRE MACHACEK FROM LETHBRIDGE

Press Release

Kent, WA - Seattle Thunderbirds general manager Russ Farwell has announced the team has acquired defenseman Cason Machacek from the Lethbridge Hurricanes in exchange for a sixth round pick in the 2012 Bantam Draft.

"Cason brings three years experience and a physical presence to our team," said Farwell. "With Ryan Button signing with Boston and Erik Bonsor deciding to move on to start a off-ice career; we needed to add a veteran on defense and Cason be a steady presence on our defense."

Machacek appeared in 65 games last season with the Hurricanes. He had six assists and 183 penalty minutes. Machacek will be entering his fourth season in the WHL in 2011-12. He has appeared in 195 career games with the Hurricanes and Kootenay Ice. He has four goals and 20 assists for 24 points with 401 penalty minutes in his career.

WHL teams are allowed three 20-year-olds each season. With the addition of Machacek, the T-Birds now have two 20-year-olds on the roster with forward Burke Gallimore being the other 20-year-old.
