Quinte West, ON –
Two local teams have come together to host the first of what they hope
will be an annual hockey game for the community. The RCAF Flyers have
challenged the Trenton Golden Hawks to a public match to be held
Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at 7:30pm at the Duncan McDonald Memorial
Community Gardens in Trenton.
Both
teams look forward to the friendly challenge, which they have aptly
named, The Battle of Quinte West and hope to raise a little money while
they are at it. “Any proceeds from the game will be shared between the
teams and the Afghanistan Repatriation Memorial project”, explains John
McDonald, President and Assistant General Manager of the Trenton Golden
Hawks. “Our teams don’t often get the chance to come together so when
they contacted us, we couldn’t pass it up”, he adds. RCAF Flyers player
Jason Briand, one of the first to contact McDonald about the game sees
it as a great way to connect the military and civilian communities
within Quinte West. “Both teams have had a lot of great players and a
lot of great history here and it only seemed fitting that we give back
to a cause that has had such an impact on our community”, notes Briand.
When asked what they anticipate for attendance, Briand simply added,
“We want to pack the place.”
