BLAZERS SIGN 16-YEAR-OLD FORWARD MITCHELL LIPON

Press Release

Kamloops, BC – The Kamloops Blazers announced today they have signed 16-year-old forward Mitchell Lipon to a standard WHL contract. Lipon plays with the Regina Pat Canadians of the Saskatchewan Midget Hockey League (SMHL).

The Regina native attended the Blazers fall training camp and was added to the Blazers’ 50-man list at the conclusion of camp. Lipon has had a standout season with the Pat Canadians registering 13 goals, 20 assists and 33 points in 26 games this season. Lipon leads his team in scoring and is tied for fourth in SMHL scoring.

“We were ecstatic with his work ethic and skill in our training camp,” commented Director of Player Personnel, Matt Recchi. “He has gone back to Midget and has been an elite player at that level all season. We look forward to continuing to watch his progress and expect him to make our team next season.”

Mitchell is the younger brother of current Blazers forward JC Lipon. JC is currently with Canada’s National Junior Team which is in Finland preparing for the U-20 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia beginning on December 26th.

Mitchell Lipon and 16-year-old defenseman Connor Clouston will join the Blazers following the Christmas break on December 26th until January 4th. Clouston is currently playing with the Medicine Hat Tigers Midget AAA team.

The Blazers will be without the services of JC Lipon (Canada), Marek Hrbas (Czech Republic) and Jordan Thomson (Team West) following the Christmas break until January 6th due to international tournaments.
