Blown transformer causes game postponement

Press Release

It was a game which promised to be electric in excitement. But, the Swan Valley/Wayway game was postponed because of ─ electricity. Or, the lack thereof.

In a strange, but true twist, Monday’s game at Wayway was postponed after Manitoba Hydro officials ordered the arena to be evacuated.

“Apparently Hydro crews were working on a line down the road from the rink,” explained MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis. “They were replacing a transformer which had blown. There were some concerns that once the work commenced, further issues would have potentially called for the evacuation of the rink and those fans in attendance. Safety was a concern.

“The repair was estimated to be about five hours. Hydro officials asked that the game be postponed and all people be asked to leave.”

A re-scheduled date will be announced within one week.
