Defenseman Injured in Monday Accident

Press Release

Waterloo Black Hawks defenseman Victor Newell was released from University Hospitals in Iowa City Thursday morning, the team announced.

The Black Hawks would like to thank all of the fans, including those of several other USHL teams, who called to express their concern for Victor after he was involved in a single-vehicle accident Monday evening.
Newell is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.  It will be several weeks before the Hawks will be able to make definitive statements about his availability to return to the lineup.

The 19-year-old from Burnaby, British Columbia skated in 22 games for Waterloo after being acquired from the Omaha Lancers.  Newell was credited with four goals, eight assists, and a +4 plus/minus rating in that time.  He has been recruited by Harvard University.
