Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jaimen
Yakubowski of the Lethbridge Hurricanes is the CHL Player of the Week
for the week ending December 9 after scoring six goals and three assists
for nine points in three games with a plus-minus rating of plus-5.
Yakubowski claims the award after receiving back-to-back WHL Player
of the Week honours. His week was highlighted by an impressive
five-goal performance where he was named first star despite an 8-7
shootout loss to the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday night. He also led
the Hurricanes to a pair of victories with multi-point efforts including
Wednesday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings where he picked up two
assists as second star of the 6-2 win, and on Saturday against the
Kootenay Ice where he scored once and added an assist as second star of
the 6-1 win.
Yakubowski, an 18-year-old from Dalmeny, SK, is playing in his second
full WHL season with the Hurricanes. In 35 games so far this season,
he ranks 29th in WHL scoring with 19 goals and 13 assists for 32 points.
Also considered for the award this week was Phillip Danault of the
Victoriaville Tigres who scored one goal and seven assists for eight
points in two games, and defenceman Ryan O’Connor of the Barrie Colts
who scored four goals and three assists for seven points in two games.
