Team USA Forward Commits to Notre Dame

Team USA forward Joe Wegwerth has committed to play college hockey at the University of Notre Dame following his USHL career.

Wegwerth has totaled four points (3g, 1a) in 10 USHL games this season for Team USA’s Under-17 squad.  All three of his goals came in a two-game series with the Chicago Steel on October 12-13.  The 6-3, 210-pound forward is a native of Brewster, New York.

Five of Wegwerth’s teammates are also committed to attend the University of Notre Dame; Nathan Billitier, Anders Bjork, Dawson Cook, Kevin Labanc, and Sonny Milano.  Six other USHL players have plans to play college hockey for the Fighting Irish; Andrew Oglevie (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Justin Wade (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Ali Thomas (Des Moines Buccaneers), Jordan Gross (Green Bay Gamblers), Vince Hinostroza (Waterloo Black Hawks), and Cal Petersen (Waterloo Black Hawks).
Notre Dame is a member of the CCHA and 22 of the 25 players on the roster are alumni of the USHL, the most of any school in the conference; Jared Beers (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Jeff Costello (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Thomas DiPauli (Team USA), Steven Fogarty (Chicago Steel), David Gerths (Green Bay/Lincoln), Sam Herr (Green Bay Gamblers), Stephen Johns (Team USA), Eric Johnson (Dubuque Fighting Saints), Mike Johnson (Cedar Rapids RoughRiders), Nick Larson (Waterloo Black Hawks), Anders Lee (Green Bay Gamblers), Kevin Lind (Chicago Steel), Mario Lucia (Team USA), Kevin Nugent (Tri-City Storm), Robbie Russo (Team USA), Bryan Rust (Team USA), Andy Ryan (Sioux City Musketeers), Peter Schneider (Indiana Ice), Steve Summerhays (Green Bay Gamblers), T.J. Tynan (Des Moines Buccaneers), Michael Voran (Sioux Falls Stampede), and Austin Wuthrich (Team USA).
