Vees forward Soleway commits to Badgers for 2014

The Penticton Vees are pleased to announce forward Jedd Soleway has committed to the University of Wisconsin Badgers for the 2014-15 season. Soleway becomes the 13th Vees player to secure an NCAA Division l scholarship.

Soleway, 18, was recently acquired in a trade with the Vernon Vipers and has two goals and five points in just four games with the Vees. Overall, Soleway has seven goals and 22 point in 30 games.

The Vernon native graduated from the Okanagan Rockets Major Midget program, where he put up 16 goals and 33 points in 40 games in 2010-2011.

The Badgers are based in Madison, Wisconsin and have been a highly successful program since their inception in 1963, winning 11 Conference Tournament Championships, three Conference Regular Season Championships and three national titles.

Wisconsin plays in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) against the likes of Minnesota, Denver and North Dakota. Vees alumnus Joel Rumpel is currently in his sophomore season in with the Badgers and plays with Salmon Arm SilverBacks alums Mark Zengerle and Morgan Zulinick.

There were 22 Badger alums in the NHL in 2011-2012, second most of any collegiate team. NHL alumni include Danny Heatley, Ryan Suter, Derek Stepan and Ryan McDonagh.
