Screaming Eagles Annouce Captain & Assistants

Press Release

Sydney – The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced today that 20-year-old forward Simon Darveau has been named team Captain.

Darveau is entering his 5th season in the QMJHL including 3 seasons with the Baie Comeau Drakkar during which he was team captain for a season and a half. He spent last season with the Victoriaville Tigres before being acquired by the Screaming Eagles this past June for an 8th round pick in 2013.

“Simon is a heart and soul guy who would do anything for his team and teammates. Having already been a captain in the Q we will rely on this experience and leadership to guide us through our season,” said Screaming Eagles Head Coach Ron Choules. “There are intangibles that cannot be measured on the score sheet or seen during the course of the game. Simon exemplifies what a captain should be and commands respect through his work ethic and leadership both on and off the ice. He is a quality person that we look forward to working with this season.”

Additionally, the Screaming Eagles announced that Stephen Woodworth, Jonathan Oligny and William Carrier will serve as assistant captains for the upcoming season.

Woodworth is entering his 4th season with the Screaming Eagles and spent the second half of last season as an assistant captain.

“Stephen is a solid citizen and all round great guy who will sacrifice for his team at all costs. He is a solid stay home defender who leads by example and is a heart and soul type player,” said Choules. “He is a great teammate who is always willing to make his teammates feel comfortable.”

Oligny, a 20-year-old defenseman, is entering his 4th year in the QMJHL. He spent 3 seasons in Drummondville before being acquired by the Screaming Eagles this June for a third round pick in 2013.

“Jonathan is a solid stay home hard nosed player that all teammates want to play for,” said Screaming Eagles Head Coach Ron Choules. “He is known throughout the league as a quality person and a great teammate; we are looking forward to working with Jonathan this season.”

William Carrier, is entering his third season with the Screaming Eagles and was second in team scoring last season. He is projected to be high draft pick at the 2013 NHL Draft.

“Will has shown great progression over the past two seasons; he has shown leadership and dedication during the off season coming to camp in great shape,” said Screaming Eagles Head Coach Ron Choules. “He is a player who leads by example and is much deserving of a letter. It will no doubt give him confidence entering the upcoming season and allow him to continue to progress.”
